This unit builds on the proficiency level achieved in IND11 and IND12. Students are guided to a higher level of command of the language in speaking, reading, writing and listening to Indonesian language in both formal and informal registers. The interpenetration of language and culture in introduced through readings and dialogues constructed around real-world situations requiring socio-cultural skills in addition to survival skills introduced in the first year of study.

This is an intermediate course in Indonesian language that expands your social proficiency while deepening understanding of Indonesian morphology, especially word formation through affixes. Aspects of Indonesian culture provide opportunities for discussion on comparisons with Western cultural norms and change in both societies.

At the completion of this unit students will be able to:

  1. use and create 'ber', 'me' and 'meN-kan' verbs
  2. use classifiers such as 'seorang', 'seekor ', 'sebuah'
  3. apply duplication words
  4. form nouns from verbal roots
  5. apply the suffix 'nya' and the particle 'nya '
  6. use conjunctions and 'Makin lama makin ... '
  7. recall various leisure activities and make arrangements to do something.
