We're Australia's destination for online higher education

Open Universities Australia is a not-for-profit dedicated to helping you access quality higher education. Mid-year FAQs answered

Our expert student advisors answer your mid-year study questions.

When do mid-year enrolments close?

You'll need to enrol before Sunday 22 August to secure your spot in a mid-year course or subject.

How do I apply for a mid-year course or subject?

We make enrolling online easy. Once you've decided what to study, visit the course or subject page and select the Enrol button. You'll be prompted to register for an Open Universities Australia account, so that you can complete your enrolment through the Student Hub. Once there, you'll receive information about the start date, tuition fees and any entry requirements. Follow the steps to provide your relevant personal information, which we'll pass onto your chosen university.

If you'd like a hand, just chat to one of our friendly student advisors and they'll walk you through the process.

When do mid-year subjects start?

Your start date will differ, depending on the university you have decided to study with. Most undergraduate subjects start on Monday 30 August, while postgraduate subjects vary. Refer to the key dates below for more information.

What is a study period?

Some universities divide their academic year into semesters, terms or trimesters. When you study online through Open Universities Australia, you'll notice the year is divided into four study periods. The reason for this is simple: it lets us offer students more start dates, so they can study when it's convenient for them.

What is online study like?

As an online student, you'll study exactly the same material that you would on-campus. But you'll have much more control over your study experience. You can choose when you view lectures and respond to tutorial discussions, dictate the number of subjects you take on at a time (your study load), and even pause your studies when life gets busy.

What if a short course or subject that I want to do isn't available for mid-year enrolment?

If your subject or short course isn't available during the mid-year intake, don't worry. We offer four possible start dates throughout the year, so there will be other opportunities to enrol. Visit the subject or course page to find out about the next available intake date. If you'd like to study now, let us know and we can help you find another option that fits your interests.
