Open Universities Australia (OUA) is pleased to announce the first Visiting Scholar under the new Centre for Online Learning Excellence Thomas C. Reeves, Ph.D. who will be working with OUA from 12 November to 10 December.
Reeves, Professor Emeritus of Learning, Design and Technology at the University of Georgia is a renowned expert in e-learning and will be working with OUA on developing e-learning quality standards.
Reeves' years of experience has made him a highly skilled professional in this field. In 1995, he was selected as one of the 'Top 100' people in multimedia by Multimedia Producer magazine and from 1997-2000, he was the editor of the Journal of Interactive Research. In 2003 Reeves was the first person to receive the AACE Fellowship Award from the Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education.
His long list of previous clients include: Apple Computer Inc., AT&T Bell Labs, IBM Corporation, the U.S. Air Force Academy and the World Health Organization. In addition to his impressive resume, Reeves has been an invited guest speaker in over 25 countries, including Austria, Belgium, England, New Zealand, Russia, Saudi Arabia and Switzerland. His current research interests include:
- The evaluation of instructional technology for education and training
- Authentic tasks for online and blended learning
- Socially responsible research goals and methods in education and
- Applications of instructional technology in developing countries
Reeves will also be a keynote speaker at the upcoming Quasar Learning and Teaching Forum, on Thursday 17 November at RMIT University. Reeves' expertise will undoubtedly prove invaluable at this event, where topics include an informed overview of e-Assessment practices, both from the perspective of learning and curriculum design and the pragmatics of e-Assessment in the OUA context. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with and discuss a number of new and developing e-Assessment technologies.
