Open Universities Australia (OUA) today announces the winners of its 2012 Tutor Excellence Awards. The Awards recognise tutors that provide a supportive learning environment for online students using various methods of online communication and support.

This year's winners are:

2012 Tutor Excellence Award Winners

Kersti Niilus, Murdoch University

Alan Royle, Murdoch University

For being a valuable member of Murdoch University and the OUA community for the Introduction to University Learning unit

Paul Wappett, OUA CEO says: "The Tutor Excellence Awards were established to recognise the dedication, passion and commitment of tutors working on units offered online through OUA."

"Each winner is truly deserving of their awards and it's a pleasure to recognise these individuals who go above and beyond expectations, time and time again," says Mr Wappett.

"The highlight of the Awards was hearing from the tutors about what a privilege it is to work with a cohort of enthusiastic students, who are engaged and really looking to succeed. And that this sparks a passion and drive in the tutors to in turn provide the best possible learning environment for their students.

"OUA greatly values its partnerships with leading universities and higher education providers, and for us, it's pivotal to our success to be able to provide access to such a high quality of courses and teaching staff from these institutions," said Mr Wappett.

The winners were among a number of outstanding nominees and received their commendations at OUA's biennial Partners Moving Forward 2012 Conference, held at the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre last Thursday.
