Open Universities Australia (OUA) is working with local Shellharbour libraries to trial an exciting new service for its students.
Shellharbour City Libraries at Warilla and Albion Park are offering dedicated library sessions which began Monday 2 September 2012 for students studying online through OUA.
OUA students living in the Shellharbour region are invited to kick-start their studies by visiting either Warilla or Albion Park libraries. It's their chance to get to grips with online study by speaking to and engaging with an OUA Connect Library Officer. By doing so, students can access a computer, find out about resources and support services that can assist them with their studies and also have the opportunity to meet with other OUA students.
"These sessions are an extension of the various support services that OUA already has in place to maximise the online learning experience and success of our students. We encourage any local OUA students in the Shellharbour region to pop down to a session so they can interact with us and their fellow students," says Dr Cathy Stone, Director, Student Experience Unit at OUA.
"We've held similar sessions successfully in another region and students were excited about the project. The students were able to air mutual concerns and developed solutions or find the answers they were looking for during the session. We're confident that the Shellharbour region will benefit from these library sessions is a similar way and we look forward to meeting our students," says Dr Stone.
Sessions began on Monday 2 September at the following times and will run every week:
Warilla Branch Library
Wednesday 6:00pm - 7:00pm
Friday 10:00am - 11:00am
Albion Park Branch Library
Monday 5:00pm - 6:00pm
Students wanting to take advantage of these sessions can simply turn up at these times and start connecting with specialist library assistance as well as other students. Of course, students are welcome to visit the libraries at any other time as well and access all the resources available.
