Getting started

Why OUA?

Studying through Open Universities Australia means not having to worry about time, distance or entry requirements - you can study what you want, when you want. OUA is committed to helping you overcome the traditional barriers to university education.

Open Access

Most of OUA's undergraduate first level units have no entry requirements so it doesn't matter who you are or where you are - you can be a student online. We also offer bridging and preparatory units to help with the transition to higher education.

One Unit or an Entire Degree

The choice is yours! You can start working towards a course straight away or you can select one or two units that interest you and select a degree pathway later.

There are funding options to suit the way you prefer to study. If you only want to study a few units, haven't made up your mind on which degree course to study, or do not meet the Commonwealth supported place eligibility criteria, you can still enrol in units through our long-standing open access arrangements. FEE-HELP is still available to help defer the cost of your studies. Click the Courses and Units tab at the top of the page for more information.

If you know what you want to study and wish to enrol in a complete degree course, Commonwealth supported places are now available to OUA students - and may be the ideal choice. Visit our Commonwealth supported place page to learn more.

Balance Study with your Lifestyle

OUA has several study periods or sessions each year, so you can fit study into your life and fast track your degree. You don't have to leave your job or put your children in day-care. Studying adapts to your other commitments, not the other way around. Better yet, you don't have to wait - you can start in February, May, August or November.

Your education. It's up to you.
