Scholarships

Open Universities Australia offers Can Do Scholarships, Academic Achievement Scholarships and Burmese Refugees in Thailand Scholarships to assist OUA students with their studies.

'Can Do' Scholarships

OUA understands that not every student experiences the same study opportunities and in 2012 is introducing the 'Can Do' Scholarships to assist new students to get started.

The Can Do Scholarship is ideal for students that:

  1. Have never studied at higher education level
  2. Would like to qualify for admission to a degree AND;
  3. Would like to be able to afford it.

This scholarship offers students the kick-start needed to achieve the above by covering the tuition fees of the introductory units required to qualify for a Commonwealth supported place, which is a place in an undergraduate course of study where the Australian Government contributes towards the cost of your education.

Additionally, as a Commonwealth supported place student you can also access the HECS-HELP government loan scheme available to eligible students to help pay for your studies.

To apply for the scholarship, you must be:

  • An Australian citizen or Permanent Humanitarian visa resident in Australia
  • Eligible to receive Centrelink benefits for the duration of your study with OUA
  • Able to demonstrate your commitment and capability to study at university level
  • Intending to complete a Commonwealth supported place degree course through OUA studies
  • Not yet eligible for a Commonwealth supported place degree but may have completed some OUA preparatory or undergraduate units

In 2012 OUA will be offering the 'Can Do' Scholarship for the following Commonwealth supported place courses listed below. Applicants should refer to the relevant course page on the website for the Commonwealth supported place course admission criteria for the minimum number of units required.

The Can Do Scholarship covers tuition fees for a maximum of four undergraduate units and three preparatory units.

How to apply

Applications will be received throughout the year and awarded according to the demand for each course. Successful applicants will start their studies in the next available Study Period and are generally expected to maintain continuous full time enrolment as required for Centrelink payments eligibility.

To apply you need to complete the application form below and include any relevant documentation or information to enable OUA to process your application and establish your financial status eligibility. Shortlisted applicants may be requested to provide contact details for referees who can provide information about your academic potential to succeed at university study.

'Can Do' Scholarship applications for Study Period 3 close Sunday, 1st July 2012.
