Commonwealth supported places

How to apply

Step 1

Applying for a Commonwealth supported place will mean committing to completing a full degree course.

Decide on the course in which you would like to undertake.

Visit the course page and if a Cwlth supported place tab is displayed the course is available to eligible Commonwealth supported place students.

Step 2

Read and understand the eligibility requirements and criteria for admission into the course, including the official information booklet on the Study Assist site. Apply for the course, either using the online form or by downloading and completing a PDF form.

Step 3

If your application is approved, you will receive a ‘Letter of Offer’ directing you to log into the MyOUA website to click “Accept” for your offer.

If your application is unsuccessful, please contact a Student Advisor on 1300 322 870 to discuss what other OUA study options you have.

Step 4

Once you have accepted your offer, you will be sent a Letter of Admittance containing your Student ID from the provider university (which you will need in order to complete an online Request for Commonwealth Support and HECS-HELP form after selecting your first units).

Step 5

Finalise your enrolment by selecting the units you wish to study and calling an OUA student Advisor (or enrolling online). This must be done by Close of Enrolment for the relevant Study Period.

Step 6

Once the desired units are enrolled into ‘Planned’ status, click on ‘Make a Payment’ and select HECS-HELP. Complete the online Request for Commonwealth Support and HECS-HELP form, indicating your chosen payment option (either HECS-HELP loan, or full or partial payment). All Commonwealth supported place students need to complete the above form, regardless of the chosen payment option. If you wish to pay using a HECS-HELP loan, you will need to include your TFN in this form. If you are waiting on a TFN you can still submit the form but will need to forward your TFN to OUA by the census date of the study period you are enrolling in.

Step 7

Your invoice will be sent to you by your provider. If you have nominated an upfront payment you will need to make this payment to the provider by the census date of the relevant study period.

Step 8

Once the HECS-HELP form has been lodged, you will be fully enrolled in your chosen units and will be sent a welcome letter for those units in time to get started on your study. This letter will include login details for the provider university.
