Description
This unit of study provides instruction in a major statistical software package used to analyse data obtained in many areas including the social, health and sports sciences. You establish, modify and analyse sample data sets using many features of the package.

- Graduate Certificate of Science (Applied Statistics)
- Graduate Diploma of Science (Applied Statistics)

Learning Outcomes
At the completion of this unit students will:
- be familiar with Windows environment on microcomputers
- be familiar with a mainstream data analysis package (SPSS for Windows)
- be able to develop an SPSS file which can be used to analyse survey data provided either in electronic or hard copy format
- know the appropriate descriptive statistical procedures to apply to different types of data
- be familiar with the SPSS procedures for descriptive analyses of data
- be familiar with the SPSS procedures for modifying and selecting data
- be able to use the Windows and syntax methods as appropriate
- be able to use SPSS for Windows to produce graphs and tables
- be able to merge different SPSS files
- be familiar with the use of dates in SPSS
- be able to investigate missing values in data using SPSS
- be able to manage complex file structures in SPSS.
