Description
Complex IT projects involve successful management of the many resources (human, capital and technological) involved, and this unit aims to focus specifically on the management of the full gamut of resources in successful IT project management. Students will develop an understanding of articulating strategies for the acquisition, deployment and management of resources throughout the IT project life cycle. In addition, the unit will focus on the need to understand how to allocate resources in order to achieve the best possible outcomes and deliver business value from the IT project. The issue of how changes in the project impact on resource allocation will also be considered. Students will develop skills in using appropriate project management software to allocate and assign resources.

- HIT7407 — Information Systems Project Management
You should complete a university level unit covering accounting or finance before commencing this unit.

Learning Outcomes
At the completion of this unit students will be able to:
- understand, identify and describe the resources involved in IT projects
- demonstrate a knowledge of and an ability to use appropriate project resource management tools and techniques
- develop strategies for the acquisition and deployment of resources in IT projects
- differentiate between the management of in-house resources verses external resources
- understand the need to appraise the performance of various resources during the project life cycle
- understand the consequences of a change (adding or removing) in resource assignment in a project
- demonstrate how a project schedule should be updated to address changes in resources
- understand the role a project manager plays in the resource allocation and assignment
- demonstrate the use of project management software to allocate and assign resources.
