Description
This unit provides students with a series of workshops, assessments and projects designed to give opportunities to explore project management concepts from a variety of practically-oriented perspectives. Emphasis is given to systems development life cycle principles. The unit addresses the entire project life cycle from conceptualising and initialising a project through to closure and evaluation of the project. This includes areas such as project scope, schedule and budget, risk analysis, assessment and management and quality assurance. Within this unit students will be encouraged to employ software management tools while undertaking a practical project and collaborating within a team.

Equivalent units
You cannot enrol in this unit if you have successfully completed any of the following unit(s) because they are considered academically equivalent:
- CIS36 — IT Strategies and Project Management
You must complete any three units from Level 2 or 3 of the Bachelor of Technology (Information Systems) before starting this unit.
Assessment
- Assignment 1 — Case study/analysis (30%-40%)
- Assignment 2 — Project Charter Pt 1 (30%-40%)
- Assignment 3 — Project Charter Pt 2 (30%-40%)
Learning Outcomes
At the completion of this unit students will be able to:
- analyse and develop a project charter
- practically implement project management techniques to develop information systems
- communicate to others the true role of each of the development methodologies covered in the modern business environment
- explain the management concepts and practices typically used in the industry to influence and guide the actions of others
- recognise and understand the elements within Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), and their purpose in managing and executing projects.
