The Graduate Certificate (TESOL) focuses specifically on Teaching English to Speakers of Other Language practices in Australia and the South East Asian region.
This course assists experienced, practising teachers in their career development by providing them with an additional specialist teaching area. For teachers who wish to add TESOL to their professional repertoire, this Certificate will provide them with a qualification which will allow them to work within the field in their current employment and assist with applications for positions at specialist language centres in Australia and overseas.
Please note that as with all online learning environments, students are expected to possess independent, autonomous learning skills and to apply them to the programme content.
Career Outcomes
A world-wide need has been identified for specialist English language teachers. Successful completion of this Certificate will provide an overseas career path.
Professional Recognition
When the course is undertaken by practising teachers from other disciplines, successful completion of the Certificate will provide an additional specialised teaching area. Successful completion of the Certificate will provide a qualification which will allow graduates to be considered for specialist ESL and EFL teaching positions at language centres in Australia and overseas.
Eligibility
Students need to hold an approved teaching qualification with an assessed practicum component.
If the undergraduate degree has been completed in a language other than English, certified transcripts of IELTS results must be included with the application. Candidates will need to achieve a minimum competency of IELTS 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in the reading and writing components of the test.

This course is restricted. Students who meet entry requirements should apply directly to OUA.
Applications for Graduate Certificate in TESOL are due two weeks prior to the close of enrolment.

Next steps:
After submitting your application, you should receive a confirmation email containing
a copy of your application for your records.
Your application will be assessed within 2-4 weeks, and if further information is
required, we will contact you. Once your application has been assessed, we will
be in touch via email to notify you of the outcome. At the latest this will be
one week after the closing date for applications.

Prepare supporting documents

Check that you have all the required documents, according to individual course
requirements and your personal circumstances, specifically:
- Your curriculum vitae - required for entry into postgraduate courses
only.
- Certified
copies of academic transcripts - required in most cases but check course
eligibility rules.
- A letter of recommendation from your employer on company letterhead -
recommended for entry using work experience.
- Certified legal documentation - if you have changed your name e.g. a marriage
certificate, deed poll name change certificate.
- Certified legal documentation - if you need to correct an error in your date of
birth e.g. a birth certificate.
- English language test results - if your courses were not predominantly in
English e.g. IELTS
or equivalent test results.
- Official translations of any documents not in English.
A "certified" copy is a copy bearing the recognised mark of a Justice of the Peace,
Commission of Oaths or declarations, Public Notary or a Solicitor.

For each certified document, scan and save it on your computer. Save your curriculum
vitae to your computer, then get ready to upload all documents in the form.

Award Requirements
To qualify for the Graduate Certificate in (TESOL) students must complete 4 units or equivalent.
Recognition of Prior Learning / Credit
Candidates holding the Cambridge ESOL Certificate of Teaching English to Adults (CELTA) can apply to be granted advanced standing for the unit TESOL568: Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.
Credit Transfer – Given that the course consists of four units only, credit transfer (other than advanced standing for holders of the CELTA award) will not be allowed.
