The Certificate IV in Small Business Management is a specialised training course designed to assist people in establishing self-employment ventures. It also provides essential skills training for existing owner/managers or senior employees of small businesses in business planning, marketing, financial management and the legal requirements necessary to manage their businesses.
Students who complete the Certificate may progress into a Diploma of Management studies. This will need to be negotiated individually with your chosen provider.

We believe that learning should take place within the context of running a small business.
The assessments will require you to apply your knowledge and skills to your own business or business idea, or to a simulated business environment using a case study. In this way, the training is directly relevant to your situation and you should see immediate benefit from your studies.
Assessment will take the form of written assignments. There are no exams.
Award Requirements
To complete the requirements of the Certificate IV in Small Business Management a total of 10 units of competency must be completed.
4 Core units must be completed plus 6 Elective units.
Note: Due to National Training Package requirements, if electing to study both Develop a Micro Business Proposal and Maintain Financial Records only one will earn credit towards your Certificate.

Recommended Study Pattern
If you have no prior business experience, we recommend you begin with the unit BSBSMB302A Develop a Micro Business Proposal and then proceed with the Core Small Business Units before undertaking other units.
Those who have prior experience in business may enrol direct in the Core units.
We advise that you are required to meet a three month deadline for your studies. Please ensure that you limit your enrolment to one, or at the most two units at a time to ensure you meet this deadline. Enrol in one or two units at a time and top up units as required.

Units in this course are available all year round. You can begin studying at any time. To obtain the Certificate IV in Small Business Management you must complete 10 units of competency. This is approximately 460 nominal hours of study (depending on the units you select). You may enrol at any time throughout the year and may choose to study individual units rather than the whole qualification.
