Description

LMC602 Measuring Strategic Performance in an Era of Constant Change is designed for business and enterprise managers to actively engage with strategic performance measurement concepts, principles and techniques in ways that will enable them to collaborate with measurement specialists in their future management activities. This unit investigates the nature and importance of strategic performance measurement in an environment subject to constant change. There is a focus on strategic performance measurement concepts and techniques and you explore and apply a variety of strategic performance measurement tools including using the Balanced Scorecard. Additionally the unit explores the challenges faced in both measuring and managing strategic performance.

Prerequisites

It is expected that students will have managerial experience in the business world. Students may find it helpful to have completed LMC501 before commencing this unit, however this is not mandatory

Learning Outcomes

At the completion of this unit students will be able to:

  1. appreciate the importance of measurement qualities in relation to strategic performance including accuracy, relevance, validity and reliability
  2. distinguish clearly between the measurement of operating and strategic performance, and internal and external strategic performance measurement
  3. evaluate measurement issues involved in different business strategies at both a structural and practical level, with flexibility and confidence.
  4. design and develop performance measures using balanced scorecard, strategy maps, triple bottom line, activity based costing and management, target costing and life cycle costing in ways that are useful in an era of constant change
  5. apply relevant processes to evaluate opportunities in relation to strategic performance in times of uncertainty and complexity.
