Description

The unit enables you to understand the influence of chaos and complexity in innovation and change environments on people (employees and managers), their perceptions of change and their responses to change in the context of achieving organisational outcomes.

Learning Outcomes

At the completion of this unit students will be able to:

  1. conceptualise and compare organisation models based on equilibrium versus complexity assumptions
  2. understand a wide range of human responses to chaotic and complex environments that are relevant to consider for effective organisation culture, development and design, and individual wellbeing 
  3. appreciate the significance of social and psychological influences and responses in conditions where complex environments generate constant paradigm changes, disequilibrium, uncertainty and ambiguity
  4. identify critical issues for development of effective organisational cultures and environments that facilitate optimal human functioning in complexity and chaos
  5. broaden an understanding of the issues above through research into an industry and organisational perspective and implications for the students own existing or anticipated organisational role.
