Description
Equip yourself with an understanding of business practices and social theory related to tourism. This unit is relevant for both aspiring tourism practitioners and enterprise managers generally looking to grow tourism opportunities in the future. The unit has been designed to provide a sound understanding of the structure of the tourism industry, the interaction between the various players and the current and future issues facing the industry.

- How does tourism interact with society generally, and what problems arise from such interaction?
- Is accepted management theory appropriate to tourism, and if not what should be the features of a tourism centric management model?
- Do traditional psychological theories of motivation adequately explain the tourism phenomenon?
- Are established theories of motivation and demand adequate in explaining tourism demand?
- What role does government play in tourism, and to what extent is their involvement desirable?
- Is tourism of benefit to society?
- What is the future of tourism?
