The RMIT University MBA (Executive) offers you the opportunity to complement your 'on-the-job' experience with integrated and practical learning. It has been specially designed to provide you with flexibility, convenience and choice. The course is designed to minimise disruption to your normal work demands and home life. The MBA (Executive) is offered over three sessions each year, providing you with the option to fast track your studies.

This course offers you the chance to build your knowledge and skills to meet the challenges of today's fast-paced and increasingly complex global business environment. It fosters leadership and strategic thinking and has a strong emphasis on corporate responsibility, governance and successful leadership.

It is possible to study the MBA (Executive) course fully 'face-to-face' where offered, or through a combination of face-to-face and online modes. This is a great advantage for students who may be relocated in their jobs or for those who want greater flexibility in their lifestyle. RMIT University's Graduate School of Business and Law is represented on campuses in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Melbourne.

Two of the electives are offered as intensive study tours in Vietnam and France. Students must have completed two core units before enrolling in an intensive study tour.

Please note: Some units in this course require you to attend sessions in Melbourne.

Course Objectives

The key objectives of this course are to:

Eligibility

The MBA (Executive) course has two entrance pathways:

Academic + work experience
Applicants require a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised tertiary institution, in addition to substantial, relevant work experience (with at least 5 years management experience).

OR

Management + work experience
Entry may be granted to applicants who do not have the academic qualification but who can demonstrate through extended professional work experience their capacity to successfully undertake this course.

How to Apply

This course is restricted. Students are required to apply and be approved by the RMIT University Graduate School of Business and Law before they can enrol in units through OUA.

Applications for the MBA (Executive) are due one week prior to the close of enrolment.

Before you start:

    • Select to apply for one or more courses listed on the application form, taking note of the eligibility criteria for each course. If you want to apply for a (restricted) course with a different university, you'll need to submit a separate application from the relevant course page.

    • Read all parts of the application form in advance:

      Receive a faster response by ensuring you have all the required information ready before you start. If you have a web account, sign in first to pre-fill personal details we already have for you on record.

      If you do not have a web account, you'll need to register one within the application form. Once you've registered an account, you'll then be signed in. From here you can choose to complete your application and submit it, or save and return to it later.

      Completing this application should take 15 to 20 minutes.

      After submitting your application, you should receive a confirmation email containing a copy of your application for your records.

      Your application will be assessed within 2-4 weeks, and if further information is required, we will contact you. Once your application has been assessed, we will be in touch via email to notify you of the outcome. At the latest this will be one week after the closing date for applications.

  2. Prepare supporting documents

    • Check that you have all the required documents, according to individual course requirements and your personal circumstances, specifically:

      1. Your curriculum vitae - required for entry into postgraduate courses only.
      2. Certified copies of academic transcripts - required in most cases but check course eligibility rules.
      3. A letter of recommendation from your employer on company letterhead - recommended for entry using work experience.
      4. Certified legal documentation - if you have changed your name e.g. a marriage certificate, deed poll name change certificate.
      5. Certified legal documentation - if you need to correct an error in your date of birth e.g. a birth certificate.
      6. English language test results - if your courses were not predominantly in English e.g. IELTS or equivalent test results.
      7. Official translations of any documents not in English.

      A "certified" copy is a copy bearing the recognised mark of a Justice of the Peace, Commission of Oaths or declarations, Public Notary or a Solicitor.

    • Create an electronic copy of your attachments:

      For each certified document, scan and save it on your computer. Save your curriculum vitae to your computer, then get ready to upload all documents in the form.

    • Do not send original documents as they will not be returned.

On-campus Requirements

Most units in the MBA (Executive) are delivered online.

The introductory unit, OMBA600 Business in a Global Context, requires attendance in Melbourne, Australia plus online follow-up work. Further information about this requirement will be provided at the time you accept your place into the course. The capstone unit, OMBA700 Strategic Business Leadership, requires attendance in Melbourne, Australia.

Award Requirements

To qualify for the MBA (Executive) students must complete 9 core units and 3 electives for a total of 12 units.

Exit Points

Students may complete 4 units for the exit award of Graduate Certificate of Business Administration (Executive) (including not more than 1 elective) and 8 units for the Graduate Diploma of Business Administration (Executive) (including not more than 2 electives).

Recognition of Prior Learning / Credit

Credit may be awarded for postgraduate study undertaken at another tertiary institution within the past 5 years. Applicants with an ICAA, CPA or Chartered Secretaries qualification may be eligible for three unit credits. Applicants are encouraged to contact the Course Administrator for advice prior to submitting their application.

Recommended Study Pattern

MBA (Executive) students should follow these guidelines:

  • OMBA600 Business in a Global Context is the introductory unit and must be studied first.
  • OMBA700 Strategic Business Leadership is the capstone unit and must be completed as the last of the core units.
  • The remaining seven core units may be studied in any order.

MBA (Executive) students may select any three electives from the Elective list below.

MBA students who have completed units before 2011 and have not yet transferred to the revised program should contact RMIT for enrolment advice.
