Exponential growth in new technologies, intense global competition and the elimination of industry boundaries has increased the external and internal challenges currently faced by managers.

This online course focuses on flexibility and agility at an individual and organisational level. It does so by exploring the fundamentals of individual, group and organisational behaviour and performance, organisational dynamics, and the importance of self-awareness, learning and self-management.

The focus of the Master of Management is directed toward the development of management capabilities in the context of changing and dynamic organisational environments.

The program is aimed at career professionals with work experience, who hold an undergraduate degree and who seek to strengthen their career progression, enhance their management knowledge and skills, and therefore improve opportunities for themselves and their organisations.

The program is suitable for those who have experience in their field and who occupy or aspire to management positions in business, government, community, service and non-profit organisations.
 

Applicants with no academic qualifications but six years relevant full-time work experience are eligible to apply for the Executive Certificate in Business.  On successful completion with a Credit average, students are eligible to apply for entry to the Master of Management.

Course Objectives

This postgraduate program in Management aims to produce graduates who will produce innovative solutions to problems and apply research skills to business challenges. Graduates will have the skills and knowledge to communicate effectively and perceptively and engage in an internationalised world.
 

Eligibility

The Master of Management has two entrance pathways; direct entry or via the Executive Certificate in Business:

Direct entry - Academic + work experience

Applicants require an undergraduate degree from a recognised tertiary institution and a minimum of two years relevant full-time business experience.

Applicants must have a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 60% or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA). For further information please contact Monash University.

Applicants with an Australian bachelor degree or equivalent qualification with a WAM of no more than 5% (or equivalent GPA) below the published score may be considered if places become available.

OR

Alternative entry: Executive Certificate in Business - Work experience

Applicants with no academic qualifications but six years relevant full-time business experience are eligible to enter the course. These students should begin with the Executive Certificate in Business. On successful completion with a Credit average, students are eligible to apply for entry to the Master of Management.

International applicants:
Required IELTS score of 7 with no individual band score less than 6.5

This course is restricted. Students are required to apply and be approved by Monash University before they can enrol in units through OUA.

Applications for the Executive Certificate in Business or Master of Management are due two weeks prior to the close of enrolment.

  2. Prepare supporting documents

    • Check that you have all the required documents, according to individual course requirements and your personal circumstances, specifically:

      1. Your curriculum vitae - required for entry into postgraduate courses only.
      2. Certified copies of academic transcripts - required in most cases but check course eligibility rules.
      3. A letter of recommendation from your employer on company letterhead - recommended for entry using work experience.
      4. Certified legal documentation - if you have changed your name e.g. a marriage certificate, deed poll name change certificate.
      5. Certified legal documentation - if you need to correct an error in your date of birth e.g. a birth certificate.
      6. English language test results - if your courses were not predominantly in English e.g. IELTS or equivalent test results.
      7. Official translations of any documents not in English.

      A "certified" copy is a copy bearing the recognised mark of a Justice of the Peace, Commission of Oaths or declarations, Public Notary or a Solicitor.

    • Create an electronic copy of your attachments:

      For each certified document, scan and save it on your computer. Save your curriculum vitae to your computer, then get ready to upload all documents in the form.

    • Do not send original documents as they will not be returned.

Award Requirements

To qualify for the Master of Management, students must complete twelve units consisting of:
• Six core units
• Two elective units from the list provided
• Four general electives as approved by Monash University
• Students must complete the Masters degree within five years of registering for the degree
 

Exit Points

Students enrolled in the Master of Management may exit with the award of Graduate Certificate in Business after completing four units.
Students enrolled in the Master of Management may exit with the award of Graduate Diploma in Business after completing eight units.
 

Recognition of Prior Learning / Credit

Monash University’s credit policy provides the framework for consideration of credit transfer applications. You may apply to the Faculty of Business and Economics for advanced standing for previous university studies. If you wish to apply for advanced standing please indicate this on your application form.

Recommended Study Pattern

Students are recommended to start with the core units and to consult with the course coordinator to ensure their elective units form a coherent study program.

Students complete six Core units, a minimum of two units from the Listed Electives plus four General Electives

Equivalent units

Students who have completed units from the Master of Business Management course must not enrol in the equivalent core or elective unit in the Master of Management course.

MBM9370 Management Theory and Practice is equivalent to MAN9600 Managing People and Organisation

MBM9850 Human Resource Management is equivalent to MAN9850 Human Resource Management
