From 2012 the postgraduate Business Management courses are available only to existing students. No new applications will be processed and only students already admitted will be able to complete the award.
Monash University has introduced a new postgraduate Master of Management course to replace the Business Management course.
The Master of Management is directed toward the development of management capabilities in the context of changing and dynamic organisational environments and is designed to provide students with a comprehensive, intellectually demanding and up-to-date understanding of management concepts and practice.
The Master of Business Management course focuses on the application of theory into business contexts relevant to practising professionals. The course covers contemporary issues relevant to practitioners operating in a local, national or international organisational environment.
Students can study towards a range of qualifications. Master of Business Management students can exit the course after four units and receive the award of Graduate Certificate or after eight units for the Graduate Diploma in Business Management. Applicants without undergraduate academic qualifications may be eligible for entry to the Executive Certificate in Business.
Course Objectives
The Master of Business Management aims to produce graduates who will:

(d.) have advanced knowledge to masters level in contemporary management theory and, be able to apply this to a range of organisational settings within their own workplace, through reflective and innovative approaches to business practice.
How to Apply
Monash University is discontinuing this award and no new applications for the Master of Business Management will be accepted. This course will continue to be available through OUA to existing students.

Transition Arrangements
Monash University is not offering the Master of Business Management after 2011.
No new applications will be processed after Session 2 2011. Students already enrolled will be able to continue studying towards completion of their course in the Business Management program. MBM Students must complete six core units and select six electives from any postgraduate unit offered through OUA as approved by the Course Director.
Business Management students may also transfer to a course in the new replacement Management program offered from 2012, subject to eligibility and course requirements.
Throughout the transition period, students are encouraged to contact Monash University for a study plan and advice to ensure they are informed about their options regarding the phasing out of the Master of Business Management.

Special Requirements
Each Monash unit uses a self-contained set of study materials including print and electronic media. Students can access a comprehensive online library service which includes access to online management journals.
Students are expected to have some familiarity with the use of computers and computer packages including the internet, word processing, presentations and spreadsheets. It is recommended that students have access to a late-model computer.
Award Requirements
To qualify for the Master of Business Management, students must complete twelve units consisting of:

Students must complete the Masters degree within five years of registering for the degree
Exit Points
Students enrolled in the Master of Business Management may exit with the award of Graduate Certificate in Business after completing four units.
Students enrolled in the Master of Business Management may exit with the award of Graduate Diploma in Business after completing eight units.
Recognition of Prior Learning / Credit
You may apply to the Faculty of Business and Economics for advanced standing for previous university studies. To review the relevant credit policy you should refer to the following website: http://www.buseco.monash.edu.au/esg/agu/policies/credit.html.

Master of Business Management students must follow these guidelines:
Core units:
Complete six core units
Electives
Complete six electives. These can be chosen from any postgraduate unit offered through OUA but must be approved by the Course Director. The electives listed below are pre-approved and recommended.
Master of Business Management students may complete their electives from units in the new Master of Management.
Please note: The new unit MAN9761 Strategic Management is an equivalent unit to MBM9371 Strategic Management. Students who have already completed MBM9371 must not enrol in MAN9761 as an elective.
The new unit MAN9600 Managing People and Organisation is an equivalent unit to MBM9370 Management Theory and Practice. Students who have already completed MBM9370 must not enrol in MAN9600 as an elective
The new unit MAN9850 Human Resource Management is an equivalent unit to MBM9850 Human Resource Management. Students who have already completed MBM9850 must not enrol in MAN9850 as an elective
