Description

This unit provides the theory and knowledge base for event management, for conducting event-based research and policy making pertinent to events. It investigates the temporal and spatial characteristics of events; the role of resources and stakeholders; and the relationship between the tourism industry and the events sector. Work integrated learning is achieved in an event evaluation.

There are no prerequisites for this unit.

Note: Level 3 units normally assume a moderate level of prior knowledge in this area, eg from studying related Level 1 and 2 units or other relevant experience.

Learning Outcomes

At the completion of this unit students will be able to:

  1. explain the core phenomenon and major themes, acknowledging the interdisciplinary nature of event studies
  2. analyse temporal, spatial, resource and stakeholder patterns involved in international, intercultural, national and local events
  3. apply theories, methodologies and research techniques to event management functions
  4. integrate policy dimensions when managing issues and trends in the creating, staging and evaluating of events
  5. analyse an event through the reporting of research and event evaluation.
