Career Outcomes
This course develops student communication and analytical skills - elements which are in demand by employers. Possible areas of employment include advertising, journalism, teaching, public and private sector administration, human resource management, public relations, research services and media agencies.
Depending on the specialisation, the Bachelor of Liberal Studies is a preparation for postgraduate study in education, librarianship, business, Asian studies, criminal justice, administration, communications and environmental sciences.
Award Requirements
A student must complete 24 units or their equivalent and meet the following requirements:

The degree will normally be of three years' duration for full-time students, but part-time students may take up to ten years to complete the degree

You can complete the degree entirely through Open Universities Australia.

At least eight units must be Griffith University units studied via Open Universities Australia

A student must complete at least one major sequence of eight units, with four units at first year level and two units at each of the second and third year levels in the same discipline
-
A student must complete at least two minor sequences in any discipline, consisting of two first year level units and two second year level units
-
The remaining eight units for the degree can be made up of a combination of first, second or third year level
-
Obtain no more than ten units at level 1 over the entire degree.

A minimum of six units must be taken at level 3 over the entire degree.
Exit Points
Certificate of Liberal Studies
Students wishing to exit the degree with a Certificate may do so after completing one major - a total of eight units. This is made up of four units at first level, two units at second level, and two units at third year level. At least two units of the Certificate need to be Griffith University units.
Diploma of Liberal Studies
Students wishing to exit the degree with a Diploma may do so after completing at least one major and a total of 16 units. This is made up of eight units at first year level, four units at second year level and four units at third year level. At least eight units need to be Griffith University units.
Recognition of Prior Learning / Credit
Students may be credited for previous studies at other institutions. Please contact the Open Universities Australia Officer, Off Campus & Assignment Handling Services at Griffith University.
Registering in this Course
Students are required to register with Griffith University for this award by completing a registration form and paying the required fee. A non-refundable $100 registration fee is payable when the form is submitted. While there is no immediate requirement for potential students to register in the degree course, students are recommended to register after completing 6-8 units, in order to receive advice on credit and unit selection.
