Description

This unit builds on the skills developed in NED11 and helps you refine your web design techniques, with a more detailed look at graphic design and interactive screen design. You will develop online multimedia, keeping in mind the limited bandwidth and download time of end users. Topics include: Introduction to Flash; Colour Theory; Interactive Screen Design; Storyboarding; Interface Design; Navigation and Flowcharts; Project Management; Animation; Copyright and Referencing; and Search Engine Optimisation.

Learning Outcomes

At the completion of this unit students will be able to:

  1. understand the issues involved in graphic design and bringing static paper-based multimedia designs into an online interactive screen environment
  2. analyse the intended audience, objectives and expected outcomes for a World Wide Web site design
  3. design and implement a suitable navigation structure for a multi-paged website
  4. develop their designs into a fully functional multimedia environment using suitable markup language
  5. use JavaScript, digital graphics, Flash and appropriate audio/visual material
  6. implement, debug and evaluate their developed multimedia designs on a World Wide Web server.
