The Bachelor of Arts (Librarianship and Corporate Information Management) leads to a professionally recognised qualification in librarianship, archives and records management.
In an age of information overload, the world needs graduates who are information literate and able to locate, capture, organise, retrieve and critically evaluate information. In this course graduates develop an understanding of the theoretical foundations of information creation and management, especially in a technological environment and gain skills and experience for practice in the real world.

Graduates will be qualified for a career in librarianship, records management, archives, information and knowledge management.

This degree is professionally accredited by the Australian Library & Information Association (ALIA), the Records and Information Management Professionals Association (RIM Professionals Association), and the Australian Society of Archivists (ASA).
Transition Arrangements
Curtin University has revised and updated the Bachelor of Arts (Librarianship and Corporate Information Management).
• Registered students should contact Curtin to update their Study plans
• Unregistered students who have completed any of the major units will be encouraged to register in the degree (if eligible) to receive credit advice and a study plan.
2012 Course Changes
• LIS110 and LIS120 have been withdrawn from offer in 2012
• LIS100 and LIM340 are new units offered from 2012
• Students who have completed a Practicum placement as part of withdrawn unit LIS120 Professional Practice in Information Services in 2011 are not required to complete an additional Level 1 Practicum placement.
• Students may select their four electives from any OUA unit but are recommended to complete a minor sequence
2012 Credit exemptions arrangements:
• Students who have completed LIS110 & LIS120 will be credited with LIS100 and LIM340;
• Student who have completed LIS120 will be credited with LIS100;
• Students who have completed LIS110 will be credited with LIS100 and must complete a Practicum placement against a unit they have not yet completed.

Practicum Placements
Students complete two placements as part of their professional experience in information studies:
LIS100 Introduction to Librarianship requires a two week practicum placement.
LIS330 Information Theory & Research requires a three week full time practicum placement.

Award Requirements
To qualify for the Bachelor of Arts (Librarianship and Corporate Information Management) students must complete 24 units of study:

An eight unit major in Librarianship

An eight unit major in Corporate Information Management

Four core humanities units

Four electives with a maximum of two level 1 elective units
Recognition of Prior Learning / Credit
You may be eligible for credit for prior learning for studies successfully completed at other institutions.
A Diploma of Library/Information Services completed within the last seven years will normally entitle you to 8 units credit. Students with a Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Recordkeeping may also receive credit towards the degree.
Units already studied with Open Universities Australia or at a university level can be used to satisfy the requirements of the elective or broad humanities units, depending upon the units and their level and when those studies were undertaken. You need to apply for credit when you register for the degree (see below). Since RPL claims can affect the choice of units to study, you are advised to contact the Course Coordinator directly (ugrad-infostud@curtin.edu.au) prior to enrolling in units for the degree. Alternatively, you can contact the Curtin Centre for eLearning (opencurtin@curtin.edu.au).
Registering in this Course
If you wish to complete a degree course at Curtin you should register your intention after meeting minimum Curtin entry requirements. This can be found at http://futurestudents.curtin.edu.au/non-school-leavers/how-to-get-in/entrance-requirements.cfm. To register your intention you need to complete a ‘Registration of Intent to Complete a Degree at Curtin University form‘ (http://elearn.curtin.edu.au/oua/study/registration_graduation.cfm) and submit it to Distance and Open Learning Services at Curtin.

Recommended Study Pattern
Major units are offered in Study Period 1 and Study Period 3 only. Full-time students should organise their enrolments to study their core humanities units and elective/minor units in Study Period 2 and Study Period 4.

Course Admission Eligibility Criteria
In order to be eligible, students must meet the following requirements:

4 OUA Undergraduate units at pass level OR equivalent OR 2 units plus English
OR one of the following:
Tertiary Entrance Ranking (TER) entrance:
Tertiary Entrance Ranking 70 (TER, ENTER, UAI, OP or equivalent). Students must have a 50% minimum in TER English (or equivalent)
Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT):
You must achieve a minimum of 145 in all sections of the STAT (Multiple Choice and Written English) to gain entry to the course
Tertiary Study:
Successful completion of a full semester (four standard units) towards an undergraduate degree at an Australian university and English language competency is needed (also refer to Section 3a)
Enabling courses:
Enabling courses completed through other Australian Universities which meet minimum entry requirements for that institution will be accepted as minimum entry requirements for this course
TAFE:
On completion of certain TAFE studies (or equivalent study recognised by the Australian Qualifications Framework – AQF), matriculation status may be granted and a Tertiary Entrance Rank (TER) may be assigned. The minimum entry requirements for TAFE students are:

Diploma, Associate Diploma, or Advanced Diploma (no additional English competency needed)

Certificate IV + English competency (also refer to Section 3a)
