The Diploma of Education Support provides a qualification for workers in a range of education and school settings who provide assistance and support in the classroom to facilitate learning in collaboration with teachers, working with students under broad-based supervision. The qualification provides opportunity for education workers to broaden their skills and knowledge base in the field of education support work.

Career Outcomes

  • Teacher assistant
  • Education support worker
  • Education assistant
  • Education assistant (special needs)
  • Support worker (children with disabilities)
  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander education officer/worker

Eligibility

Academic & Professional:

To gain entry into CHC51308 Diploma of Education Support candidates require validated experience in direct learning support roles under limited guidance as an education support worker, child care worker, home/volunteer tutor or similar role or successful completion of a Certificate IV in Education Support.

Students wishing to undertake the Diploma of Education support must have an industry-based work placement for which they can demonstrate practical examples of for assignments. This placement can be employment or a voluntary placement

If students wish to seek out voluntary work placement they must complete a:

  • Working with children check
  • Police check.

International:

IELTS (Academic) 5.5 (no band less than 5.0).

Applications for the Diploma of Education Support are due by Friday two weeks prior to the close of enrolment.

Assessment

Online submission of assessments for all units is required via the GippsTAFE learning management system. There is no requirement for invigilated exams for this course.

Award Requirements

To qualify for the CHC51308 Diploma of Education Support students must complete 13 units which include seven core units and six elective units.

This is a restricted course. Enrolment is only available to students who have been accepted into this course.

Exit Points

Thirteen (13) units (7 core units plus 6 elective units) are required for the award CHC51308 Diploma of Education Support.

Students required to commence with the CHC51308 Certificate IV of Education Support prerequisite fifteen (15) core/elective units will complete a total of twenty eight (28) units and will graduate with both the CHC51308 Diploma of Education Support and the CHC41708 Certificate IV of Education Support awards.

Students can exit with the CHC41708 Certificate IV of Education Support upon completion prerequisite fifteen (15) core and elective units.

Recognition of Prior Learning / Credit

Recognition of Prior Learning is a process that assesses the individual’s formal and informal learning to determine the extent to which that individual has achieved the required learning outcomes, competency outcomes or standards for entry to, and/or partial or total completion of, a qualification.

Applicants with relevant on-the-job experience or with successful completion of part of relevant units may be eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning. If you believe you may be eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning you will need to provide details of your relevant qualifications or experience in the Application form for the course.

The Recognition of Prior Learning/Credit section on each of the university course pages on the OUA website has information about credit or unit exemptions for your previous study at TAFE. The Eligibility section of some courses lists TAFE qualifications required before you can apply to be admitted to the course.
